Description
This drypoint was based on a watercolour painting I did during an en plein air session at Fogg Dam with a Darwin-based art group. The reflections of lotus leaves (Nelumbo nucifera) were evident in the clear morning light.
Drypoint printmaking is where a sharp stylus is used to draw onto a metal plate to create a burr along the grooved lines. When ink is applied to the plate surface and wiped clean, ink is trapped in the burrs. As the burr is worn down by the pressure of the etching press, only small editions are possible.
