Description
The green tree ants of tropical Australia are very social creatures, very engaging to watch as they cooperate working on nest building and food collecting. This body of wheel thrown porcelain attempts to capture their character and antics. Extending on my previous work with scanned skeleton leaf images applied as laser print decals, I am exploring the use of overglaze in this new work. Requiring a third, lower firing, the colour choice is far more extensive than is possible with glazes. My use of leaf colour is inspired by the many tropical plants in my garden. Employing glazed and unglazed, polished surfaces, image designs are composed directly onto the surface so each piece tells a unique story.
